Elder John William Harrison
February 8, 1932 — February 14, 2016
Age 84, of Nashville made his transition from this earthly life to eternal life on Sunday, February 14, 2016.
John William Harrison’s life can be characterized as one of joy and love. His humor and wit were both unanticipated and welcomed. John’s spirit was generous and flowing. To know him was to love him, for so many were blessed by his smile and Christian character. He was a citizen of Franklin, Tennessee, born on February 8, 1932 to Tommie Mai McLemore and Willie Bell Harrison.
John was educated in the public school system in Franklin, in which he later taught. He received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Industrial Arts from Tennessee State University. His formal education afforded him the opportunity to teach in the public school systems in Paris, Franklin, and Nashville, TN for thirty years. John not only taught students, but also encouraged, nurtured, and challenged students to do their best. His dedication and passion for teaching was exemplified for numerous years at North High School, Meigs Jr. High School and East High School. He retired from East High School and was a substitute teacher for several years after retirement.
John served as a Sunday School Superintendent in Franklin for several years. He chauffeured his pastor, Bishop Nesbitt to various cities throughout the Tennessee district. He sang in the choir. Later in life, he was called to the ministry of preaching. He enjoyed declaring God’s word in the cities of Louisville, Columbia, and Clarksville, TN.
John was not content to sit still after retirement. He and his son, Lew, started a lawn care service, where they worked, prayed, and laughed together. At the end of his journey, his faithful wife, Lou Ella cared for him and gave her all until the end. John knew it was time to go. One of his last requests was to get his dress shoes ready so he could go home to his Heavenly Father.
He leaves to cherish his memories his faithful wife, Lou Ella, his son , Lew (Myra), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
