Margaret Ree Polk

January 5, 1932 — December 8, 2014

Margaret Ree Polk age 82 of Nashville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Monday, December 8, 2014. She was born January 5, 1932 in Bethel, TN to the late Lowell and Teenie Gilbert.
Margaret gave her life to Christ at an early age and was raised with strong family values. She obtained her diploma from Bridgeforth High School in Pulaski, TN.
Margaret moved to Nashville as a young adult. She was employed at Vanderbilt Hospital in 1966, where she worked for 25 years before retiring. She is fondly remembered by co-workers and friends at Vanderbilt.
Margaret attended Tabernacle Baptist Church and Mt Olive Baptist Church faithfully until illness made it difficult to attend. However, she was still very devoted to The Word and lived her life with Christian principals.
Margaret loved shopping and was always exquisitely dressed. She never left the house without her makeup. Her nails were neatly manicured and hair was impeccably done under her sharp hats. She believed in beauty and grooming and it showed in her fashionable and trendy attire. She never met a stranger. She was vivacious and wore an endearing smile for everyone. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends who enjoyed her company and her sense of humor.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, James H. Polk, Sr; devoted son, James H. Polk, Jr; granddaughter, Natalie C. Brown; brothers, Eugene Gilbert, Andrew Brown, Willie Gilbert, and Charles Gilbert; sisters, Polly Gilbert, Peggy Gilbert, and Evelyn Gilbert.

Brown, Jr. and their mother Teresa Brown; sister, Barbara Gilbert; brother, Billy Gilbert; beloved in-laws, Lerlie Hyde of Kenner, LA., Lucille Downing, Addie Batey, and Diana Harris, all of Chicago, IL., Pamela McKissack, Larry (Ada) Browning; beloved cousins, Carnell (Dorothy) Nelson, Veto, AL., Mary Evelyn (Jackie) Hailey of Prospect, TN., Carlyne (Robert) Cross of Pulaski, TN; lifelong friends, Dorothy Trimble, Willie Humphries, and Mae Ruth Garfield; special friend, John Washington of Cincinnati, OH., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
