Bennie A. Mcclendon

September 24, 1928 — September 29, 2021

Benjamin McClendon was born to the late Joseph Pinkins and Annie Kate McClendon on September 24, 1928, in Springvale, GA. He was lovingly raised by Lawrence and Pinkie McClendon in Nashville, TN.

Ben accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at Greater Bethel church and later joined 15th Ave. Baptist church. Where attended for the remainder of his life.

He graduated from Pearl High School. And went on to serve in the United States Armed Forces. He worked with the Metro Board of Parks and recreation for over 40 years.

Ben married Mary on June 29th, 1959 and they were inseparable until the end of his life. When you saw one you saw the other nearby. Their relationship was an example of pure love and devotion.

Ben loved his hobby of ceramics and often taught his craft at 15th Avenue Baptist Church. His handmade and hand-painted pieces are in the homes of many of his friends and family members to this day. He loved photography and took thousands of photos of his family, friends, and vacation destinations. He loved to travel and loved listening to Jazz music, which he could do all day.

Ben was a very funny person. He kept us entertained with his light-hearted comments. We will greatly miss his frequent hilarious banter.
Saddened by his homegoing, but yet rejoicing in his victory, remains his loving wife Mary, His children Ben Jr., (Toledo, OH). Kelvin (Meika), Darryl (Kimberly). His grandchildren are Ashley Glotta (Zachary), Jasmine Merrell, Jeremiah Lyons, Jasmine McClendon, Kelvin McClendon Jr., Kayla Lyons.

Our family is tremendously blessed to have a large number of close personal friends who we consider family. Although we can’t name everyone, we want each of them to know what huge part they played in Ben’s life and will continue to play in our lives.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Bridge at Hickory Woods for their wonderful loving care and dedication to our loved one.
