Charlie Hymon Jr.

October 27, 1940 — July 21, 2021

Charlie Hymon Jr was born on October 27,1940 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to the late Charlie Hymon Sr and Sallie Jones Hymon. He was the 4th of 9 children. He attended Sims High School. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Jones and Lucilla Ross; parents, Charlie Hymon Sr and Sallie Jones Hymon; sisters, Odessa Gulledge, Lucile Hailey; brothers, Tommie L Hymon, Willis Hymon, & Amos Harris.

In 1962, Charlie moved to Nashville, TN. He lived for a short time with his cousins, Clarence & Johnnie Ross. He was introduced to Margaret Mcmurry by her cousin Juanita Lockert. They were joined in holy matrimony on February 23, 1964. To this union were born Charlie’s pride and joy, 1 daughter and 1 son.

In 1966, Charlie was employed with the Board of Education as a Head Custodian. He took pride in his work. His professionalism and integrity won him numerous awards. On 2 occasions he received 1st place for the cleanest school in Davidson County. In 1997, he taught an Inservice Training Class for new employees with the Board of Education. In 1998, he retired after 32 years of service.

Charlie was always working. He had his own ‘home repair business’ in addition to his employment with the Board of Education. He was always willing to assist anyone who called upon him and he believed in treating everyone fairly. He lived a life of commitment, to God, his family and devotion to work. He encouraged the best from everyone, because he always gave his best.

Charlie loved to travel. History was his favorite subject in school, so he dreamed of traveling when he became an adult. He was blessed to take his family to 49 states in the US for the exception of Alaska. He loved attending his family reunions, he loved visiting family members, he loved fishing, he loved to talk, he loved to read the newspaper daily, and watching the news. Charlie had a beautiful singing voice, he often sung at home and in the car. He was told he had the best falsetto voice when he was younger, and was compared to Smokey Robinson. He loved music from gospel (quartet was his favorite) to country, classical, and easy listening music. He also loved to dress, when his mother would give him money to go to the ‘picture show’ when he was younger, he would save the money and buy tailor made clothes in Memphis, TN.

Charlie was a faithful member of Merry Street Church of God 7th day for 55 years. He held positions of teacher, Superintendent, and chairman of the Board until his health failed. He still attended church when he was not mobile, because that is where he drew his strength to keep going.

Charlie Hymon Jr departed this Earthly life peacefully at home on Wednesday afternoon, July 21, 2021 with his wife and children by his side.
