Eleanor Laprade Darts-Hart

September 21, 1936 — February 25, 2021

Eleanor A. LaPrade Dartis-Hart was born on September 21, 1936 in Clarksville, Tennessee to loving parents Flora Bush LaPrade and Walter Esquire LaPrade. She was preceded in death by husbands James Alvin "Sunny" Dartis, Jr. and Charles Hart.

Eleanor Dartis-Hart was educated in the public schools of Robertson County, Highland Institute Elementary School and Bransford High School. She graduated from Tennessee State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, a major in Business Education and a minor in Business Administration. She worked for the Universal Life Insurance Company from 1960-1961; Substitute Teacher and Secretary of the Nashville —Davidson County Board of Education 1962-1964; Tennessee State University Physical Plant 1964-1971, Tennessee State University Department of Physics and Mathematics 1971-1982, and the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation from 1982 until her retirement 1996. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

She confessed her life to Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul C.M.E. Church in Sadlersville, TN.

When she moved to Nashville, TN she joined St. Luke C.M.E. Church under Rev. John L. Glenn, then P.E. Ronald M. Powe and now Rev. Leon F. Parker, Ill. She was an active member of the choir, General Missionary Society and Class Leaders.

Auntie never met a stranger. Whether it was part of her DNA or the Nancy Drew in her, within 20 minutes of conversation she knew your life history and the name of your kin. She was fondly known by the local neighborhood kids and TSU students as Ms. D or Mrs. Dartis for giving rides, feeding them, typing their college papers or giving stern motherly advice. Our Sunday family dinners and gatherings won't be the same. It's Kim and my turn to make those chess pies, banana puddings folks ask for.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: son, Steven R. Dartis, granddaughter Mia Dartis, great grandsons Kemoni, Zaden and great granddaughter D'Miah Dartis; and grandson Milek Dartis; and daughter Kimberly J. Norman, grandson Christopher Norman, granddaughter Breanna Norman and great-grandson Brandon Coleman; sister Colista L. (Jerry) Lanier; niece Vara P. Lanier; brother James T.
(Francine) LaPrade, niece Pamela LaPrade Duncan, nephews Freddie McIntoch, Keith LaPrade; Great Aunt, Laura L. Davis, great nephews Kenneth Davis and Anthony (Dana) Davis; play sister Jane Ligon, niece Laconya (Jonathan) Vaden; nieces Fanchetter Ennix, Drusilla Martin, Janet Darden and nephew George Darden and best friend Mrs. Alma "Gladell" Lindsey.
