Upon completion of high school, she received her Bachelor of Science (1960) and a Master of Science (1971) degree in education with a minor in English, all from Tennessee State University. While there, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and pledged in Chattanooga through a grand chapter. In 1979, the completed 45 hours degree in vocational education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Tennessee.

She retired from Metro Nashville Public School System (MNPS) after many years serving as a Business Education teacher at McGavock High School, and later, Hunters Lane High School.

At a young age, Grace accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, being baptized at Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church of Columbia, Tennessee.

In 1983, she married Aberell Keith Gordon. Her passion was teaching and enjoyed spending time with her family. Also, she enjoyed traveling. She dedicated her life to the service of others. She was a proud member of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, One Spirit Book Club, Prince Hall Order of Eastern Star, Tennessee State University Alumni Association (55-year vintager), the Retired Teachers Association of Prince Georges County in Maryland, and the Democratic National Committee.
