Hazel Small Pirtle

August 1, 1943 — November 17, 2018

Hazel Small Pirtle was born on August 1, 1943 in Lincoln County, TN, to the late Abe M. and Mollie A. Small. She was the second of four children born to this union. Hazel transitioned from this life to reward on November 17, 2018.

She was a graduate of West End High School, Fayetteville, TN. Hazel continued her education earning her RN license from Boliver School of Nursing, Boliver, TN.

At an early age, Hazel professed her love for and faith in the Lord at Concord Primitive Baptist Church, Howell, TN. She later moved to Nashville and continued her love and faith at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church.

She was united in Holy matrimony to the late Charles M. Pirtle. To this union, two loving children were born, Gwenell and Christopher.

She worked a number of years at Vanderbilt Hospital and Meharry Hosptial retiring from DD Wallace/ Centerstone Center. Hazel was loved by both her coworkers and patients.

She took pride in her work. She will be remembered for her faith, caring words, and love for others. She never met a stranger, never complained and would help anyone she could. Hazel loved the Lord and was devoted to her church, her family, and her friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her father Abe M Small and her brother Abe Small Jr.

Hazel’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her 103 years old mother, Mollie Small; children, Gwenell and Christopher; granddaughter, LeSondre’, great- grandchildren, CeMajae’ and Malaijah; sisters, Gladys Gough , Nashville, TN and Rosa (Bill) Waddell, Cleveland, OH; sister-in- law, Carolyn Small; loving family member, Dorothy Greer; nieces, nephews, and other relatives, Godson D. Dubose and extended family, The Moseley’s.
