Joe Lewis was the son of the late Ivey L. Sr. and Christine Gray.
He accepted Christ in 2001 at Fresh Anointing Church under the Leadership of Bishop William H. Boyd. In 1980 he was married to Janie Smith Gray, whom preceded him in death.
Joe Lewis was born and raised in South Nashville. He was educated in Metro Nashville Public Schools and he attended Auto Diesel College. Retired from Metro Nashville Public Schools as a bus driver.
Joe Lewis was preceded in death by sisters, Cynthia Reese and Katherine Bell; grandson, Eric Gray; mother and father, Christine & Ivey Sr. Gray.
Ivey Jr. is survived by brothers and sisters, Renetta Lea, Howard (Donna) Gray, Harold (Pearl) Gray, Sidney (Lauri) Gray, Jessica (Robert) Green; children, Nathan (Lucille) Gray, Erica Gray, Crystal, Xavier, Jada (John), Lashanda, Ivey III (Arresha), & Zavia; 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and best friend Leon Wilson.
