Joan Angela Armstrong

November 20, 1948 — February 21, 2021

Who is Angela Armstrong? As the story is told, she is her mother’s answered prayer. After seven boys and one (tom-boy) girl, God answered her prayers and blessed Mary and James with a girl…

I lived in Nashville for 13 years before moving to Washington, DC, but while I was here, I attended all of the great historical public schools (Moses McKissack, Ford Green, Washington Jr. High and 1 year at Pearl High). I moved to Washington, DC where I attended and graduated from Ballou High School in 1966, gave birth to my daughter (Lisa Michelle) in 1967 and started a career with the Federal Government in 1968. These sequences were not my strategic plan for my life; however, things don’t always work out as planned, but even with these circumstances and/or consequences I learned to accept and handle them as presented.

I love my family and I’m pretty much on the happy side of life. I have a few friends that I can trust and who trust me. I’m reliable, stable, and compassionate; when it comes to family, I’m there before they ask.
I love to travel, cook, entertain family and friends, and make people laugh. I keep the family in the loop with a monthly newsletter (Family, you know….). I gather information and turn it into hilarious family gossip. Nothing offensive or hurtful, but keeping the north and south connected to the east and west family members. I organize family reunions and birthday parties; you can label me as an “Event Planner”.

At the age of 65, I was semi-retired and full retirement July 2015. Associate Degree in Social Work, I also want to take piano lessons and be in a recital.

My accomplishments are my ‘Life Testimony”. I don’t have a degree, a practice, published any studies, or cured any diseases. I’m ordinary… a mother, sister, grandmother, a friend, caregiver, and soon to be a (proud) great grandmother. If it be His will, our family will have another five generations in January 2014.

Above all, I am, water baptized and Hold Ghost sealed Christian with an intimate relationship with the Lord. This relationship has taken years to understand on my part. Whenever, I am fearful I recall Psalms 27, when I need a reality check or self-evaluation I turn to Proverbs 30:5-9, and when I’m in need of strength, reassurance and guidance, I go to Colossians.
This is Joan Armstrong as I know her.

Proceeded in death by Parents; James E. Armstrong, Sr. and Mary A. Armstrong, siblings; James E. Armstrong, Jr., Juanita Armstrong-Carter, Benjamin L. Armstrong, Helen Marie Duncan, John W. Armstrong, Sr. and Carlton W. Armstrong, Sr.
