Kenneth Stratton Phillips Sr.

Kenneth Stratton Phillips, Sr. passed away on August 12, 2022. He had recently celebrated his 82nd birthday.
Kenneth was born on August 8, 1940, in Nashville, TN to Robert Phillips and Gladys Stratton Phillips (McKay). He was educated in the Davidson County School System and graduated from Pearl High in 1958. He was a proud Tiger and was active with the Pearl High Jazz Ensemble for several years where he played the trumpet. After graduating, he enlisted in the Marine Reserves, where he served for six years. In addition, he was a member of Prince Hall Affiliated Lodge, Rock City #272.
Kenneth was often remembered as one of the friendliest gentlemen and always had a kind smile on his face. He was beloved by his family, neighbors, and all that he came in contact with. Kenneth had a 45 year career with the Metro Transit Authority. Upon retirement, Kenneth returned to train a younger class of Coach operators and was always excited to see them succeed. His MTA colleagues were considered his family and they all held a very special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Phillips and Gladys Stratton Phillips (McKay); brother, Billy R. Phillips; daughter, Lillian (Chon) Stone-Fields.
Kenneth leaves to mourn his passing, his most beloved wife of 63 years, Ernestine H. Phillips; children, LaShael Pritchett, Letanga Phillips Glenn (Charles) , Kenneth Stratton Phillips Jr. (Uykia); siblings, Cynthia H. Hatchett (James), Jane Kathy Newman, and Belvid R. McKay; grandchildren, Quinisha D. Pritchett, Jarrell L. Broughton (Erica), Chastity L. Stone, Travis D. Pritchett, Imani D. Broughton, William Alexander Stratton Phillips, Lauryn Taylor Fields, Edmond Spencer Graham Phillips, and Ellis Alexandria Fields; great grandchildren, Adrian, Kennedy, Jordan and Kendall; great-great grandchildren; Jayden, Avery, and Sylar; uncle, James Phillips (Connie); devoted friends, Ernest Barnes, Charles Branch, W.C. Coleman, Darryl Howard, Dorothy and Theodore Clement, Ernest Fields, Michael Pritchett, and James Broughton, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Public Viewing Thursday, August 18th from 3-6pm at Highland Hills. Visitation Friday, August 19th from 11am-12 noon with funeral to follow at The Temple Church, 3810 Kings Lane.
