Mary Elizabeth Jordan

October 11, 1940 — February 17, 2022

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald Jordan was born on October 11, 1940 to the late Dorothy Fitzgerald Childress and Alvin Lee Childress Jr. She was the oldest 13 siblings.

She passed away on February 17, 2022, due to a long illness. Before she closed her eyes for good, she said “I will be alright, I am at peace".

Mary married Robert Lorenzo (Bobby) Jordan, who preceded her in death. They lived in Nashville TN. They had no children together, but raised 10 children. She professed her hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of Progressive Baptist Church since 2012 where she was an Usher and a devoted church member.

She loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest, loved meeting people and would all ways say God Bless to whomever she met. She loved reading the bible, puzzles, cross word books, walking and visiting family and friends. She loved going to church and her church family. She loved calling her children, brothers, sisters and friends every day. She met no stranger, never complained and always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed her grandchildren, music and dancing.

Mary hurt her foot and that didn’t stop her from attending church until she could no longer attend. She would often read the bible and pray with her daughter Lolita.

She attended Nashville public schools, worked at Happy Day Laundry and Satsuma restaurant for many years and was a light to many, and will be sadly missed by all.

Her legacy is to let your light Shine for all to see and God Bless.

She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Alvie 111, James and Calvin Children; 3 sisters, Patricia A Lewis, Gwendolyn Dunn and Dorothy Childress; 2 grandchildren, Jamarcus Carney and Cedric Fitzgerald and stepson, Raydell Jordan.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory, Children: Alfred Eugene (Peewee) Fitzgerald, Theresa Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Timothy Thomas (Tim) Fitzgerald, Lolita (Tony) Fitzgerald-Cannon, Barbara Renee (Nana) Fitzgerald, and Ammie Linzey Fitzgerald; Devoted granddaughter Quashawta Fitzgerald; Step Children: James Jordan, Robert Jordan, LaQuinta Jordan, 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; Brothers, Thomas (TG) and Carl Childress; Sisters, Jacqueline Knight and Carol Carney; Devoted Friends: Leslie Cousin, Jacqueline Dillard and Don Fleming; nieces, nephews and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Let not your hearts be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. "In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
