Ollie Porter Burns

April 5, 1919 — April 11, 2020

A Godly life ended April 11, 2020 when Deacon Ollie Porter Burns departed his earthly life at the age of 101. We know he is at rest with our Heavenly Father.

Deacon Burns was born April 5,1919 to the late Walter and Sadie Burns. He was the youngest of 3 siblings.

He was educated in the Williamson County School System, and lived his entire life in Williamson County. He loved singing Doctor Watt Hymns, fishing, grilling, and being outdoors. He was an Army Veteran of World War ll where he served in the European African Middle Eastern Service. He received the World War ll Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal AR600-68, And 4 Bronze Stars. He was also the 2019 Honorary Grand Marshal for Williamson County's Veterans Day Parade.

After serving his country, Ollie was married to the late Mollie Southall Kinnard Burns on January 15, 1950. To this union, three children were born. Realizing his need for a savior, Ollie accepted Christ and united with Greater Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in the early 1960's.

Deacon Burns was an active church member. He served as an usher, trustee, Church Treasurer, and Superintendent of Sunday School for many years, before becoming a Deacon. He served faithfully on the Deacon Board, until his health began to decline. Everyone knew Ollie as a friendly and caring individual. He volunteered to deliver food with meals on wheels and after retiring, he enjoyed taking people from Williamson County to Davidson County for doctors appointments.

In the words of his favorite Dr Watt Hymn, "My Work On Earth Will Soon Be Done", Ollie departed peacefully knowing his work on this Earth was done.

There are three steps to Heaven; out of self, into Christ and into Glory. Deacon Burns has taken all of those steps where there is no more weeping, pain, and sorrow. He is reaping his great reward reserved for his faithfulness.
