Richard W. Jamison

Richard Wendell Jamison (affectionately called Dickey Bird) was born to the late Rufus Miller II and Esther Pearl Dillard Jamison in Nashville, TN. He was educated in the Nashville Public School System, graduating from his beloved Cameron High School in 1959. While matriculating at Cameron he played basketball and football.


After high school, Richard left Nashville to attend college in Columbus, OH. He also served briefly in the United States Air Force.


Richard loved to travel and made his home in several states during his life journey. Some of the places he lived were Michigan, Milwaukee, Las Vegas, and Connecticut. He never met a stranger. Richard settled in Chicago, IL and worked as a manager at GO Parking.


Richard loved to skate, catch a good football or basketball game, and cheer on Tiger Woods playing golf. He enjoyed being around people and was the life of the party. Not only did he like to have a good time, but he also served others. Richard was a caregiver in his own right and was always available to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Later, he moved back to Nashville to assist with the care for his aging father. In his free time, you could catch him at Eddie’s Barber Shop bringing cheer and laughter.


After the passing of his father, Richard moved back to Las Vegas, NV. While in Las Vegas he met and married Franzetta Woodard. He joined Victory Missionary Baptist Church and was excited for his renewed and strengthened relationship with Jesus Christ. He enjoyed studying the bible and discussing new revelations.


Richard began having health challenges and returned back to Nashville to be near his family. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Rufus Miller II and Esther Pearl Jamison; siblings Mary Esther Williams, Rufus Jamison III, Jesse Jamison, and kinship sisters Gertrude DeValda and Velva Gregory. He leaves to cherish his devoted siblings Mona Jamison, Connie (Rev. Dr. Arrold) Martin, Lydia (Robert) Lyles, Gerald Jamison, and step-sister Carla White; Brother in law Verdell Williams, Sr.; Special cousins Ervin (Sandra) Tinnon and family; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, and friends.
