Sabarri D. Evans

July 21, 1993 — September 26, 2018

Puffy cheeks and bright eyes appeared in the beautiful Sunshine State of Florida, July 21, 1993 to be exact. There she was our lovely princess named Sabarri Dorothea Evans. She was the perfect blend of everything good in her daddy Barry Evans Sr. and her mother Sara Venda-Rae Evans. What a joy and hope she brought. Her eyes so bright, her smile so wide and a heart full of love and kindness. In all of that sweetness, there was a sassy side and she needed it. In the line of siblings, she was smacked in between her big sister Ajanée and her little brother Cassim. Best friends, cheerleaders, rivalries sometimes, but always Team Evans, or as Barry Sr. often called them—“Evansuniverse!” What a devotion this bunch carried for each other. Don’t’ mess with the muskateers!
Ajanée and Sabarri, fashionistas from day one. “Sim” and Sabarri... well a picture is worth a thousand words and in this case, ten thousand words and actions too! As already mentioned, she was
sassy too! Who was in charge? “Ya’ll already know!” Can you hear her?
As time carried on Sabarri shared her love, joy and sass with everyone she met. “ No strangers for me!” Can you hear her saying that? She had a heart so big and a love so pure, she fought for the neglected and the rejected. Around eight years of age she attended a civil rights tour in Alabama with her mom and siblings. Deep understanding and compassion brewed inside, as they attempted to look at and pass by the grave of Jimmy Jackson; well… not with out a loud and bold exclamation from little Ms. Evans. The tombstone was full of gunshots so she said “ No! No! He’s already dead! Why are they still trying to kill him?” A reporter nearby heard her and did a double take. Intrigued by her passion he came over and interviewed her because she had so much to say and preach. “Ya’ll know I love Jesus!” Can you hear her? Justice for the weak. Yes, that was our Sabarri and yours too! Outspoken, highly intelligent, diligent and a go getter. A well rounded lady indeed.
She played softball, was a cheerleader and always participated in numerous movements or student activities that enhanced her community. She especially like helping the elderly. Her passion to see people advance lead her to Middle Tennessee State University, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work.
So her leaving makes you cry, scream or gaffe, replace it with the sweetest sound of her giggle and instead just laugh.
Sweet memories to all of you. ∎
