Terry Lee Hylick

December 28, 1941 — October 15, 2020

Terry Lee Hylick was born on December 28, 1941 in Maury County, Tennessee, the oldest child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul (Patsy Ann Orr) Hylick.

Terry Lee went to work to help care for his family at a young age then settled in a career at Werthan Packaging Company in Nashville. He was married to the love of his life, the late Mrs. Mary Lou Hylick. Though Terry Lee and Mary Lou had no children of their own, Terry Lee embraced Mary Lou’s children from a previous marriage as his own and became a loving stepfather and grandfather.

Terry Lee was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He attended several congregations including Ramsey Street, Schrader Lane, and Trinity Lane, and then placed membership at Jackson Street Church of Christ.

Terry Lee enjoyed R&B and Gospel music from the ‘60s and ‘70s and had an extensive album collection. On any given Saturday morning at the Hylick’s, you would see Mary Lou working a crossword puzzle, smell her turnip greens cooking for Sunday dinner, and hear Terry Lee blasting some of his Motown favorites while cleaning their home. When he was not playing music, he was tuned in to one of his favorite TV shows on the latest and greatest model television. Terry Lee loved to watch Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Lone Ranger and The Incredible Hulk. He had a huge DVD collection and enjoyed watching movies and giving them as gifts. Terry Lee had a serious sweet tooth and loved chocolate Now & Laters, candy orange slices and butterscotch. He adored his family, and always had a crisp dollar bill ready to give the kids on Christmas.

Terry Lee was a humble and loving man, known for speaking to all his neighbors and always having a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his baby brother, Joseph Wayne Hylick; sister, Paula Jean Hylick; niece, Sherry Ann Hylick; nephew, Terry Hylick Jordan, and he left this world on the same day as his niece, Ovella Lachell Fitzpatrick.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his brother, David Lucas Hylick, Sr. (Clara), nephews, Gerald A. Toliver, Michael (Lisa) Hylick and David (Tamica) Hylick, Jr., niece, Glenda Imani Toliver; other nieces and nephews, Camaiya Hylick, Austin Hylick and Carletta Hylick; great niece, Cherice Toliver; great nephew, Zachary Toliver; devoted brother-in-law, Clay Toliver; best friend, Mr. Esther Jennings, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and family members.
