William Andy Mcgahey Jr.

Mr. William Andy McGahey, Jr., 64, of Hermitage, Tennessee passed away early in the morning on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. William was born William Arthur Nichols, III on November 26, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland to Mr. William Arthur Nichols, II and Mrs. Mildred (Frizell) Nichols, who preceded him in death. In 1957, he was adopted by Mr. William Andy McGahey, Sr. and Mrs. Lucy (Richards) McGahey of Nashville, Tennessee, who also preceded him in death.

In 1970, he was united in holy matrimony to Mrs. Dorothy Bernice (Morrow) McGahey of Nashville, Tennessee.

William completed his high school equivalency education and earned several certifications, with the most recent being a diploma in professional bookkeeping and accounting from Professional Career Development Institute in Atlanta, GA in 1999.

He spent most of his adult life as a military serviceman in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. Throughout his career he served as a leader in many capacities from an infantryman, to an inventory management supervisor, to a training supervisor of noncommissioned officer professionals. While serving in the military, he garnered numerous awards from M-16 and grenade Sharpshooter, to a National Defense Service Medal, to a Good Conduct Medal with Two Leaf Clusters, Longevity Service Award Ribbon, an Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with Two Oak Leaf Clusters and an Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon.

From his marital union, William is survived by his only son, Reverend Dr. D. Lee (Kimberly) McGahey and their daughter (William’s only granddaughter) Miss Princess Rose McGahey of Cane Ridge, Tennessee; two sisters: Mrs. Emogene Vanatta of Abilene, Texas and Mrs. Peggy (Marvin) Sullivan of Smyrna, Tennessee; his aunt Mrs. Frances Mills of Nashville, Tennessee; and a host of cousins, in particular Mrs. Karen (Jeffrey C.) Rasmussen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Lana G. Netherton of Nashville, Tennessee; and endeared friends, Mr. and Mrs. Will and Jean Crowthers of Hermitage, Tennessee and Mrs. Lorin Herr of Adoration Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee. William was a faithful and consistent supporter of Through the Bible Radio Network in Pasadena, California.
