Willie Henderson Hammonds Jr.

Willie Henderson Hammonds Jr entered eternal rest on Sunday January 31, 2021; Wille was the 4th child and first boy of 6 children born to the late Willie H. Hammonds Sr and Margaret E. Kelsoe Hammonds on November 8, 1955 at Meharry Hubbard Hospital.


From birth he united with Kayne Ave Missionary Baptist Church where he was baptized here in Nashville, TN. Willie received his childhood education in the Nashville Metropolitan City School System where he graduated from Pearl High school in 1973. After high school he was later drafted and served in the US Army during the Vietnam ERA and honorable discharged in 1976. Upon returning home after being discharged he continued his education at Tennessee State University where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1983 while working at the Tennessee State Department of Corrections as a Security Guard. He wed Ms. Monica Donaldson and out of this union a beautiful baby girl Christina Latrice was born. Due to the complications Monica passed away shortly after childbirth; Willie became both father and mother with the help of his mother and family. He later wed Ms. Sharon Gain and was blessed with two sons Willie III and Christopher Edward from this union. He worked as a manager for 15 years in the food service industry where he attended culinary and restaurant management schools. He later returned to his love of law and completed his Paralegal Degree in October of 1996. He then worked in the District Attorney’s office until he later had to retire due to health condition.


He is preceded in death by wife Monica D. Hammonds, Father Willie H. Hammonds Sr, and Mother Margaret E. Kelsoe Hammonds, brothers-in-law Warren G. Lawson Jr and Irvin E. Dent.


He leaves to cherish his memory and rejoice in blessings his daughter Christina Latrice Hammonds (Monica Hammonds-mother), sons: Willie Henderson Hammonds III and Christopher Edward (Tanika) Hammonds (Sharon Hammonds-mother); loving siblings sisters: Margie A. Hammonds Huntsville, AL, Dorenda M. (James) Cheeks Ooltewah, TN, Sandra A. Lawson Nashville, TN, brothers: James A. (Deborah) Hammonds Lebanon, TN and Claude E. (Lisa) Hammonds Sr Nashville TN; ten grandchildren: Shawntrice Hammonds; Shauntina Stockard; Victoria, Christian and Ma‘ Kayla Carmichael; Jordan and Willie H. Hammonds IV; Cayden and E’ Mari Hammonds, Simeon Wigfall; great-aunt Martha Hobbs Toney AL; and numerous devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
