Evangelist Wondone Y. Phillips

May 24, 1957 — July 1, 2021

Evangelist Wondone YGean Phillips was born on May 24, 1957. She was the fifth child of the late David Dowdy Sr. and Minnie Sherron. Born and raised in Nashville, TN, she received her formal education through Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; and with such a strong, ingrained belief in the word of God, she was led by her faith to seek and also attain a biblical education as well.

Wondone began her walk with Christ at a very early age, as being reared in the church was of great importance to her mother. She enjoyed singing in the choir and singing as a group with her sisters. Before long, as a young wife and mother, she too would soon begin to rear her own three children in accordance to the word of the Lord. She would later come to reap the rewarding harvest of such early seeds sown, as in 2013, her son would be the very one to unite her with the Voice of Truth Ministries, her final church home. Soon thereafter, she and her son would both go on to pursue biblical knowledge in Theological Studies, and together, they both attended and graduated from the Voice of Truth Bible Institute. In June 2016, Wondone earned her first religious diploma, receiving an Associate of Theology in Biblical Subjects, and in June 2018, she also received a Bachelor’s of Theology in Biblical Studies diploma as well. Wondone was such a stellar student in God's word that she graduated at the top of her class with Distinguished Honors and was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for having received a perfect score of 100% on all of her exams.

Aside from her faith, Wondone also deeply loved and cherished her family. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Nanny", and she enjoyed spending quality time with them, as they kept her young at heart. She also enjoyed cooking and having dinner with family, and she was well known for her famous pot of turnip greens as well. Her ribeye steaks were better than any 5-star restaurant, and a lot of her meals when dining out simply could not compare. Wondone was a huge sports fan, and from an early age, she developed a love for basketball and learned to play the game very well. Although, she didn't have a favorite basketball team, LeBron James, was her favorite player; and so, whatever team he played for that year, would be the team she rooted for all season, never switching up, nor jumping on any "bandwagon". A lover of the outdoors, Wondone could frequently be seen grilling, gardening, or playing outside with her grandchildren. Although, short in stature, Wondone was a pillar of strength to those who knew her, and her strength and courage will be greatly missed by all.

On July 1, 2021, Evangelist Wondone YGean Phillips transitioned peacefully to her new home, and today, she leaves to fondly cherish her memories, loving and devoted daughters: Lawanna (Kenneth) Patterson and Rontae Dowdy-Phillips; loving and devoted son: Minister Earl Phillips III; grandchildren: Cornelius Phillips, Phillana Majors, Earl Phillips IV, Breona Phillips, Elijah Phillips, LaMia Patterson, and Anijah Phillips; great-grandson: Royce Brown; twin sister: Sandone ("Sandra") Dowdy-Boyd; sisters: Edna Clopton and Pastor Judy (Pastor Marvin) Quarles; brother: David (Ruth) Dowdy Jr.; aunts: Dorothy Johnson and Juanita Johnson; loving and devoted nephew: Ronnie ("Pokey") Chambers II; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she loved very much, along with many other dear relatives and remarkable friends. Those awaiting her in our Father's house are, parents: David Dowdy Sr. and Minnie Sherron; sisters: Deborah Dowdy and Earline Dowdy; and brother, Michael Dowdy.
