Doretha Dixon-Tyler was born on March 20, 1960 in Tutwiler, MS to the late George Eugene Dixon and Francie Ruth Carter. She was the second oldest of seven children.
They later moved to Nashville, TN where she attended Metro Nashville Public Schools and graduated from Hume Fogg High School. A passion for nursing led her to TSU and to Nashville State for Early Childhood training.
For over 22 years she ran a successful daycare which was more of a ministry than business. Her little learners called her ‘Auntie’, and she proudly taught them to pray and sing songs of worship during daily devotional.
She will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, prayer warrior, and faith walker with a gift of encouragement. Her spiritual strength and legacy continues through her children Tanya (Haison), Cortney (Kierra), Cameron, Titus (Raelynn), Trinity and grandchildren Kennedii, Kerrigan, Cortney Jr., Colin, and Tyler, along with 2 great grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories husband Robert Tyler, mother-in-law Shirley Conner, siblings Gene-Earl Dixon, Frederick Dixon, Jennifer (Harold) Doss, Terry (Evelyn) Dixon, Mario (Andrea) Dixon, Kena Dixon, and Marcus Bridges, Shirley Dixon, sister-in-law Linda Tyler-Goins along with a host of nieces, nephews, devoted cousins, and Christian friends.
