Gayzola Brasher

Mrs. Gayzola Brasher, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Sunday, July 31, 2022.


Mrs. Gayzola Brasher was born August 12, 1933 in Orlinda, Tennessee. Gayzola was the oldest of 7 children born to the late Finis and Luvenia Gilbert. She was also preceded in death by brother, Howard Gilbert and two sisters Veronica Wilson and Betty Gilbert.


Gayzola was born in Orlinda, Tennessee. She was a product of the Robertson County Educational System, and a graduate of Bransford High School in Springfield, Tennessee. Upon completion of High School at the age of 16, Gayzola attended Tennessee State University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.


Afterwards, she relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana and was gainfully employed with the Indianapolis Public School System. Later, she enrolled at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and earned a Masters Degree in Education and after 38 years, retired in 1995. During her time as an educator she touched and positively influenced the lives of hundreds of young people, imparting to them the importance of getting an education and being a good citizen.


While living in Indianapolis she was a member of the Messiah Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana; member of the Women of Excellence, a faithful Sunday School Teacher, a devoted supporter of the Childrens’ Ministry, as well as serving as a Church Greeter.


Because of a desire to move closer to her son, Keith and family, Gayzola relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. After moving to Tennessee she became a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. She also attended the Bread of Heaven Apostolic Church in Nashville.


Gayzola was a precious jewel. She was a traveler, an encourager, a giver, a decorator, fashion lover and a consumer of news and information. She loved conversing with friends and family and talking about grandchildren and great grandchildren.


She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted son, Brian Keith Brasher (Karen), two grandchildren, Brandon L. Brasher (Destiny) and Courtney M. Jackson (Stan); two great grandchildren Luke Brian and Christian Blake Brasher; sister Frances Barker; two brothers Harold (Juanita) Gilbert, Hugh (Marian) Gilbert, David Wilson, brother-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.
