Nashville

Jessie J. Greer, age 83 transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Friday, March 29, 2024.

Mr. Jessie James Greer, a cherished family man, a dedicated worker, and an avid fan of Tennessee State University and the Tennessee Titans football team, was born on March 13, 1941, in Denmark, Tennessee, to the late Ms. Cora B. (Jinnie) Greer and Mr. Mack Chatman. His early years were spent in the warm, close-knit community of Denmark, where he attended Denmark Elementary School and Denmark West High School, laying the foundations of a life characterized by dedication, hard work, and a deep sense of community.

Jessie's lifelong association with Tennessee State University spanned over five decades, where he served in various capacities. His unwavering commitment and contributions to the university have left an indelible mark that will be remembered by colleagues and the countless students whose lives he touched.

Jessie's legacy is carried on by his loving family: His loving and devoted wife Mrs. Charlotte Greer, his six children, Mr. Jessie F. (Shakera) Greer Sr. of Jackson, TN, Mr. James A. Greer of Jackson, TN, Mr. Nathaniel (Michelle) Greer of St Louis, MO, Mrs. Sonya (Eddie) Barnes of Portland, TN, Ms. Celeslie Jeneene Greer of Sacramento, CA, and Dr. Charner L. Rodgers of Atlanta, Georgia. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren - Mr. Jessie F. Greer Jr. (who preceded him in death), Ms. Chantel Greer, Ms. Shatima Greer, Mr. Myles Greer, Ms. Tiffany Stanley, Dr. Shannon LeeVonne McKinley, Ms. Taylor Faison, Ms. Parke Faison, Mr. Eddie (Jenae) Barnes, Jr. and Mr. Aaron “Buddy” Barnes. His joy was further multiplied by six great-grandchildren, Ms. Cherish Arnette, Ms. Chloe Arnette, and Ms. Nyla Stanley, Ms. Zykeelah Barnes, Ms. Makaya Barnes, and Ms. Yona Barnes. Jessie also leaves behind his beloved Aunts, Mrs. Mary Jeanette Goff and Mrs. Maggie Ruth Clark.  He also leaves his brother Mr. Larry Chatman and devoted cousins, Mr. Dennis Bond and Mr. Robert (Bone) Greer, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Jessie's life was a testament to the values he held dear - family, service, and community. His love for Tennessee State University and the Tennessee Titans football team was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. Jessie's presence was a source of strength, wisdom, and warmth for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Jessie's journey on earth has come to an end, but his spirit, love, and memories will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace
