Nashville

John W. Chadwell Jr. passed away peacefully on March 12, 2023, in Nashville,
TN. He was a devoted father, cherished grandfather, beloved uncle, and dear
friend to many. Born in Nashville, TN, John lived a life filled with love, laughter,
and kindness. He was known for his warm smile, gentle demeanor, and
unwavering generosity.
John W. Chadwell Jr. was the firstborn child of the union of John and Estelle
Chadwell. He attended Stratford High School and Nashville Auto Diesel School.
He later received a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from MTSU.
While in college, he married Renita Patton. Two children were born into this
union: Tonia LaShan and John W. Chadwell III. John raised his family in
Goodlettsville and they attended Bakers Chapel CME Church where he served
as an usher, sang in the Men’s choir, and was the Youth Sunday School teacher.
John served in the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation. He then worked for the
United States Post Office for 22 years, where John was respected for his
dedication and hard work. He approached every task with diligence and
integrity, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working
with him. He later worked for the Federal Government until he retired in the Fall
of 2023.
In his free time, John enjoyed eating everything, listening to music, skating, and
dancing. Due to his undeniable sweet tooth, John would put chocolate syrup on
top of everything and his favorite foods were ribs and peanut butter and jelly
sandwiches. John loved to dance; his favorite group was Earth, Wind, and Fire.
John found solace and joy in the simple moments spent with his family and
friends, especially playing cards.
John will be dearly missed by his devoted children: Tonia LaShan Chadwell
(Wesley Newell) and John W. Chadwell III; siblings: Sonya Moten and Claude
Chadwell; and grandchildren, Xavier Pardo, Mason Newell, and Alyssa Newell.
He also leaves to treasure his memory devoted nieces and nephews: Claudette
Cannon, Brandon Chadwell, Claude “CW” Chadwell Jr., Quiteka Moten, Quineka
Moten, David Moten Jr., Quiauna Hambrick (Troy Hambrick), Tiarra Patten, and
Raymont Miller; devoted cousins Wayman Chadwell, Ladevia “Dee Dee” Davis,
and Claudia Campbell; his sister-in-law: Tonia Miller (Terry Miller); his best
friends: Doug Jordan, David Frame, and Roger Battle; and his great Aunt
Cornelia Baird. He also loved trips to Memphis to visit his ex-brother-in-law,
David Moten. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered fondly for
his kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit. He is preceded in death by his
loving mother, Estelle Chadwell.
John W. Chadwell Jr. may have left this world, but his love and legacy will
continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
