Wilbur Leonard Duncan was the second child born to the union of James E. and Verneda Allen Duncan on February 13, 1936 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Duncan family started life in North Nashville on Clifton Road where most of his close relatives lived. In 1938 his parents decided to move the family and purchased property on Whites Creek Pike and become entrepreneurs.
Wilbur and his older brother Clarence often reminisced of the time on Whites Creek Pike as “when they lived in the country”. World War II interrupted the lives of many people, and the Duncan family were no exception, so they moved back to North Nashville where Wilbur and his siblings attended public school, and all were successful graduates of Pearl High School.
Wilbur frequently talked about the need and value of a strong family to support each other.
During his long illness he talked about his goal to continue maintaining strength, dignity and resolve in hopes that his family, and especially grandchildren, will draw strength and learn perseverance when they have major challenges.
Wilbur had a successful career for 33 years in the United States Postal Service in the Nashville Tennessee Post Office. Wilbur served many years as the National President for the National Alliance Postal and Federal Employee labor union headquarters in Washington, District of Columbia.
Wilbur entered into peaceful rest on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
Wilbur is survived by Marie Duncan, his devoted and loving wife of fifty-five years. He is preceded in death by brothers, James W. Duncan and Raymond L. Duncan.
Wilbur will be greatly missed and leaves to cherish his memory, by his loving children, Clarence L. Duncan, Leonard (Sheryl) Duncan, Anton (Amy) Duncan, Chevene Duncan-Herring (George), Trevonda Smith (Henry) and Brien Duncan; grandchildren, Clarence Jr., Sydney, Nicole, Clarence DeAndre, Jaylan, Jalyssa, Cayden, Leonard III, Max, Montavious, Hanna, Amanda, Ashley and Maria Duncan, Trevonda Tussie, Tangela Daley, Tiarra Hall, Dana Franek, Verneda and Quinton Herring, SheLena Trimble, Cheree Garcia, and Eric (deceased) Duncan, host of great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence E.
